It is learned that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has
responded positively to the President's request. Mahinda Rajapaksa has agreed
to resign as Sri Lanka's prime minister at a special cabinet meeting at the
President's House, chaired by Gotabaya Rajapaksa, according to a Colombo Page
report.
The Sri Lankan cabinet has been informed that Mahinda
Rajapaksa has agreed to step down due to his failure to address the country's
ongoing economic crisis.
Meanwhile, the country's security forces have been beefed up
for the second time in five weeks by declaring a state of emergency.
A spokesman for the president said emergency laws had been
enacted to ensure public order. Earlier, protests and strikes began amid a
severe economic crisis. Schools, colleges, shops and businesses are closed.
Moreover, due to the strike, the transport system also became to unusable.
The country's finance minister said this week that the
government had about 50 million in foreign reserves in Gotabha Rajapaksa. The
country's economy collapsed mainly due to the Corona epidemic and the rising
oil prices.

president's misguided policies and actions had created such a tragic situation.

The last presidential election in Sri Lanka was held in
2019. Gotabaya Rajapaksa proposed a reduction in tariffs ahead of the

from 15 per cent to 6 per cent and abolish other tariffs.
The Rajapaksa family is now on the brink of collapse in the

2010 and 2020.
